Main reason for going home- having my dad fix my burned out tail light :-)
The hill that their house will be built on.
Brush from around the property that needed to be torched! It was so big and so hot!
Fire licking the sky
Cute, tiny snake I found :-)
While I was there, the old brush all over the property needed to be burned...so we burned it! Dad would light fires along the way and mom and I would make sure none of it got out of control. Here's Mom masterfully controlling part of the blaze with a shovel.
Mom working the line
Dad observing, waiting for the fire to come to him.
End result! My parents say the land is usually beautiful and green...
Lunch time by the stream
One of the streams
After working on the land all day, we went into town to eat. Then we went to this hill to see the Missouri river.
Enjoying the view
Pretty blossoms
An Asay family favorite, frozen custard!
The second day we thinned out the trees and got rid of the thorny ones...for good reason, these suckers were long and sharp!
My first chainsaw experience :-)
My parent's neighbors had Anatolian Shepherds that had just had 16 puppies! They were so so cute!
At the hardware store, they had 6 tubs filled with little baby chicks, adorable :-)
Kansas City where we ate some amazing BBQ!
What a fun trip! Makes me want to go visit too!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures! You call that a controlled burn but it looks like it could so easily get out of control. I guess you spared your arms to make sure that didn't happen.
Love and miss you! Your trip out here was exactly 2 years ago. Last Saturday we went over to the Lab of Ornithology for the migration day. That the same thing that we did when you were here.....2 year ago. It's been too long! Visit again! We miss you!
So fun! It looks so beautiful and I can't wait until we can all go there together. Miss you!
